There are some requirements for you to obtain your forklift licence. The main one is that you successfully complete a forklift training course conducted by a Registered Training Organisation.
You must be least 18 years of age.
It is also advisable to have a basic understanding of both written and spoken English. That way you can understand and pass the theory component of the examination.

Having a forklift licence in your country does not exempt you from a licence here. International forklift licences are not recognized in Victoria. This means you will need to be tested again and submit your application to Worksafe Victoria.
You are allowed to operate a forklift at work. However, you need to be supervised by someone who holds a current forklift licence at all times. If they don’t have one, then you are contravening Worksafe Victoria.
Different RTO’s offer different forklift training courses. However, all RTOs will offer courses that are suitable for beginners. Most courses will range from one, two or three day courses.
As there are a number of RTO’s who provide forklift training, there will be some who offer a number of forklift training courses around Victoria. If you want training at your facility, some RTOs will come out to you. Some help a number of businesses train their staff onsite. However, the trainer and assessor will conduct checks to identify whether you have the appropriate facilities.
All RTO assessors are all Authorised Certificate Assessors. All have many years experience with forklifts and training students and are required to have current industry experience. That means they are able to quickly pick up on difficulties you may have on a forklift.
When you come in for forklift training, you may want to wear something comfortable. However, you must wear closed shoes. As safety is vital, RTO’s will not let you wear open footwear of any kind. These include, thongs, sandals, crocs, etc.
