There are a number of beginner courses you can do with a Registered Training Organisation who offer forklift licence Melbourne. Two of the more popular courses that RTOs teach are listed below.
The one day forklift training course is designed for those who have no or very little experience with a forklift.
With the one day forklift training and licence course, training centres send you out the theory materials as soon as you make a booking. You are expected to go through the materials and learn everything in it. These materials will make up your theory test.
After you have studied the materials, you will then come in for forklift training on site.
During the training day, the assessor will go through the materials again with you to make sure you are familiar with them. You will need to spend time on the theory so you can pass your theory test.
On the day of the course, RTOs will allocate time to go through the training manual. However, most of the time will be spent on the practical component of the forklift course.
This will include covering the main forklift components, how to operate the forklift safely, safety checks on the forklift and much more.
Then when the assessor sees that you have an excellent grasp on the forklift and you are confident, they will assess you for the practical test.
Upon passing the test, you will be granted a 60 day licence. This allows you to start looking for a job and start operating a forklift. However, within this time, you will need to make sure you apply to Worksafe Victoria for your licence.
Worksafe will process your application and $60 application fee and in turn issue you a forklift licence.
The two day forklift training courses are quiet similar to the one day courses. The only difference is that you will go through the theory materials with the assessor. You don’t have to worry about studying the materials before you come in for forklift training.
Now, the RTO will give you a choice as to which course you’d like to do. What you do need to consider is this. If you are limited in English, or find it hard to study at home, then it’s best to do the two day course. The reason for this is that you can spend time with the assessor and other students to go through the questions and answers.
However, if you are disciplined and like to read and learn new things, then a one day course may suit you. (However, it is best you speak and clarify this with the RTO)
At the end of the day, if you aren’t sure which forklift training course to do, then give us a call and we’ll discus it with you.
