To operate a forklift in Australia, the operator needs a Forklift licence.

There are many industries that hire Forklift operators such as warehousing, agriculture, utilities, manufacturing, etc., and to work in any of these industries as a Forklift operator, you need a Forklift licence. There are many centres offering Forklift Training Melbourne.

Forklift operation is classified as a high-risk job. Because of this the Australia Government has set out guidelines, requirements and regulations that must be learned and fulfilled before a candidate can acquire their Forklift licence. The basic prerequisite is that the candidate must have successfully completed a Forklift course conducted through a registered training organisation with qualified Forklift trainers and licenced Forklift Assessors. RTO’s will ensure that every student is taught the complete regulation, Health and Safety theory and have practical, hands-on training on an actual Forklift before they are assessed by a Licenced Forklift Assessor.

Every applicant must be at least 18 years of age unless there is a special circumstance. These are rare occasions where the candidate might be granted an exception. This is usually rare.

Every candidate must be able to read and speak English. The theory and practical are both in English and the candidate must be able to understand what they read and the instructions of the trainer. A good command of the English language is necessary for the student to be able to understand and retain the information they are being taught through all RTOs providing forklift training Melbourne courses.

Once the student has sufficiently learned both the theory and practical parts of the course and have shown some proficiency in the operation and safety of Forklift operations, they can complete the Assessment exam. If they pass the Assessment exam, the student will be issued a Notice of Assessment which will allow them to operate a Forklift for 60 days while they wait for the Forklift licence.

The Forklift theory part of the course is taught by a registered instructor. It includes Forklift driver safety, pre-checks of equipment, work safety checks of equipment and post-checks of equipment. The theory portion also covers health and safety issues and government regulations.

The student must complete the theory training to their Instructor’s satisfaction before they can begin the practical portion of the forklift training Melbourne program. This is hands-on training where the student sits behind the wheel of the Forklift. It includes pre-operational checks of equipment, operational checks of equipment, load shifting and proper shut down procedures.

Once the student has completed their practical portion of the course to their Instructor’s satisfaction, they can sit the practical exam with a licenced, certified Forklift Assessor. The Assessor is responsible to ensure the student meets the competency requirements to operate a Forklift safely.

When the student has passed the Assessment exam, they will receive a Notice of Assessment that will allow them to operate a Forklift locally for 60 days. During this time, the student is required to apply for their Forklift licence which will allow them to operate a Forklift anywhere in Australia for 5 years.

For those interested in a career as a forklift operator, a forklift license is required. Whether it warehousing, utilities, agriculture or one of the many other industries that employs forklift operators, the applicant must possess a forklift license. Our website is a site that makes it simple for students to find a RTO who offer these training courses.

Because a forklift is classified as high risk work, the Australia Government has set guidelines and requirements that must be fulfilled before obtaining your forklift license. One prerequisite is that the operator must have completed a forklift training course conducted through a registered training organisation. The course is conducted by forklift trainers and assessors. This ensures that the students have been taught how to safely and competently operate a forklift.

Those wishing to obtain their forklift license or enroll in a forklift training program must also be at least 18 years of age. There are rare occasions where someone may be granted an exemption.

There is also the necessity to have a good grasp of English. This is simply because both the theory and practical study involved in forklift training are performed in English. And, a very good command of the English language is necessary to ensure that the student understands and retains the information taught through the forklift training course.

Once a student has enrolled in a class and learned both theory and practical study regarding forklift knowledge, operation and safety, they will then need to complete and pass a forklift license assessment test.

Forklift training theory is taught by a registered instructor through a study guide which includes forklift driver safety, pre checks necessary before operating a forklift, work safety checks and also post checks.

Depending on the process of each RTO, once a student has completed the theory training with their instructor’s satisfaction, then the student will begin practical forklift training. This is the behind-the-wheel training that includes pre-operational checks, operational checks, load shifting and shut down procedures.

Once the student is confident with operating a forklift they will be given a practical test by a certified forklift assessor. The assessor is responsible for testing and ensuring that the student has the competency to operate a forklift safely.

Once the student has passed the assessment performed by the assessor the student will receive a Notice of Assessment from the assessor. This can be used as a temporary license for the next 60 days, during which time the student will apply for their forklift license.

At the completion of training, a certified forklift assessor will conduct a practical test. It is the assessor’s job to test and assess to determine if the student has the competency to operate a forklift safely.

Registered Training Organisations provide forklift training and Worksafe credited license testing for forklift operators in Melbourne. Even if you have a single employee who requires an assessment in order to get licensed, some RTO’s have assessors who can conduct the tests on site.

The on site training includes training inexperienced operators preparing to get a forklift operator’s license to refresher training for operators already certified. The operators can be trained and examined on site with equipment that they use every day.

As an employer you should be able to prove that your operators are well versed in forklift use and forklift safety precautions in the work place. Worksafe licensing recommends that all forklift operators should undergo a refresher program every twelve to twenty four months. This is important to provide proof that competency levels, safety measures and precautions are still being observed in the work environment.

RTO’s that provide forklift license Melbourne training course can provide tailor made refresher training programs for different companies. The programs can be suited to individual circumstances and work environment, they can either be individualized or group trainings.

On site forklift assessments are available throughout Melbourne and select country areas with RTO’s.

Everyone being assessed is provided with a short theory course majorly used to promote forklift safety. The theory is later followed with practical sessions designed to show case forklift operation, use and forklift safety procedures. Less experienced forklift operators can book additional training classes to improve their competency.

All operators should read the requirements for onsite training and assessment to improve their chances of passing and success. And before any assessment all operators being tested will need an approved photo id during the testing. This ensures that they are eligible for the forklift assessment.

On successfully completing the forklift assessment both theory and practical’s, the trainees will be provided with an interim license to perform High Risk Work-LF. This temporary license will last for 60 days after which one will be required to go to the Australian Post and show 100 points of identification; have a photo taken or provide a high quality passport photo and pay $60 to Worksafe Victoria.

Then you will be issued with a 5 year forklift operating license. The license will be sent to Worksafe Victoria and can be renewed upon expiration.

RTO’s can provide Melbourne forklift training and WorkSafe accredited license testing for forklifts, on site at your premises. Even if you have only one person who needs an assessment, some RTO’s may organise an assessor conduct the test on your premises.

On Site Training
On site training ranges from training for inexperienced operators in preparation for their forklift license, to refresher training for certified operators.

Operators can be trained and tested on site at your premises, using the equipment they will be using every day.

Under Duty of Care, as an employer, you need to be able to prove that your operators are competent on a forklift in the environment in which they are being used.

WorkSafe recommends that all existing forklift license holders undergo refresher training every twelve months to two years as proof that they are maintaining their competency levels and deemed to be safe to operate in the company’s working environment.

Registered Training Organisations can tailor a refresher training program to suit your circumstances and work environment, for individuals or groups of operators.

Licensing
Forklift assessments are currently available on site for all Melbourne locations and some country areas. However, onsite assessments are in the review process.

All students being assessed will be provided with a short theory session designed to promote forklift safety. Some RTO’s will provide additional training by offering less experienced operators further training.

All operators being tested will need approved photo id at the time of testing.

Course outcome:
On successful completion of the assessment (theory and practical), participants will be issued an interim License to Perform High Risk Work – LF, that will last for 60 days. Within this 60 days, they will need to go to Australia Post and show 100 points of identification, have their photo taken (or provide a passport quality photo) and pay a small fee to WorkSafe Victoria. The five year license will then be sent by WorkSafe Victoria.

ForkliftlicenceMelbourne can help you find a local RTO who conducts forklift training.

RTO’s who operate forklift training in Melbourne, along with WorkSafe testing for accredited forklift operations testing, may have the facilities to offer training and testing at the location of your choice, no matter how many or few people you need trained and certified.
Refresher courses for experienced certified operators and intensive training for brand-new operators with new experience are offered by some RTO’s. Trainers will use your own equipment to test and train your staff, so that they can see what they will have to use on a daily basis and you can see their skills on said equipment.
Trainers may offer training and testing on your site because according to Duty of Care regulations you need to be certain of your operators’ ability to operate your machinery competently. It is highly recommended that every forklift operator go through a refresher training course every one to two years, to show that they still have the skills to keep themselves and others safe in their work environment. Most RTO’s offer training courses that can be customized to meet your company’s specific work conditions and needs.
All operators undergoing testing for a forklift licence will go through a theory portion of class to teach safety and regulations of forklift operation. Most training centres can schedule more hours for newer operators who need more classroom teaching.
